The Basics:
I’m a freshman at UW and am hoping to major in Civil Engineering. I grew up in Spokane, WA, I love hanging out with my family and two Beagles at home. I am really close with my younger sister who is seventeen, I also have a younger brother who is 12 years old. My favorite TV shows are LOST and The Office. My hobbies include: jigsaw puzzles with my mom, knitting with my Gramma, camping/hiking/back- and horse-packing excursions with my family, gardening, traveling, and spending time at the lakes in Northern Idaho and Montana in the summertime. The coolest places I’ve visited are: islands all over the Caribbean this past summer, and Glacier and Yellowstone National Parks.
My writing habits:
Usually when I sit down to write I don’t wait until the very last minute, but I do tend to put it off and turn in the first draft and skim it over rather than actually putting much time and effort into it. I tend to write papers in one sitting rather than taking breaks. I hope this intensive writing course will encourage me to thoroughly examine all of the readings—going through them more than just once–and actually learn to spend time on what I write. I want to have other students or CLUE members read my papers so I can learn what my strengths and weaknesses in writing are and expand my vocabulary.
The best writing playlist ever:
My favorite music to listen to when I’m writing is classical, I love Debussy, Beethoven, and Chopin; I’m a fan of Christopher O’Riley as well; usually I listen to the Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, or Belle and Sebastian when I am doing schoolwork. My favorite artists lately are Joanna Newsom, Radiohead, Kate Nash, Interpol, Earth Wind & Fire, Fleet Foxes, Dave Matthews Band, and Josh Ritter.
